In May 2006, Dr. James was named Program Director, Learning Communities and Associate Director, Academic Achievement and Access Center, University of Kansas. Dr. Gail James, from New Jersey, has her Ph.D and M.A. from the University of Arizona, in French Language and Literature, with a B.A. from Elmira College in New York, majoring in History and Political Science, and was selected for Junior Year Abroad, Sorbonne, University of Paris. As faculty, Dr. James taught French and Humanities at Kansas City Kansas Community College, and served as Chair, Division of Humanities; she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for study in India. She then served as Dean, Humanities and the Arts, Community College of Philadelphia; Dean of Instruction, Houston Community College System, TX; Academic Vice-President, Bergen Community College, NJ. As both faculty and administrator, she has been active in initiating and implementing grants and curricular projects, and has developed numerous presentations at educational conferences. She has been the recipient of several post-doctoral fellowships, including National Endowment for the Humanities and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, as well as the National Institute for Leadership Development and the League for Innovation, Executive Leadership Program. Dr. James has significant consultant experience in both higher education and the non-profit sector, and serves on Boards of Directors of local, national and international organizations.
